the land before time…

and The Stone That Crossed the Pacific

So… this is going to be a novel. If you’re interested in reading this (and I really think you should), then you may want to get a cup of coffee first. 😂

Roughly around the time we were preparing to do the rest of the Jupiter in Cancer rituals I had planned for this year (a few months ago), my youngest son went to Japan for the first time. He has Jupiter in Cancer at the degree of Exaltation natally, so I have been naming him “Thor” for a looooong time.

This was also the window when my friend Edwin was beta-testing Magnum Mundi from @sphereandsundry — though I did not know it then. I didn’t fully clock it at the time, but I was already tapped into that field more than I realized — receiving the signal all through the Venus and Jupiter work we were doing. The completed World-field was already moving.

the rock

Anyway, he comes home and says he has a gift for me and hands me this stone that was so warm in the hand. At first I thought it was warm from him holding it, but that heat has continued to this day. I have become OBSESSED with this stone because I have never been off the North American continent, and I am obsessed with geology. At first I thought I loved it so much just because of the timing of him being there, finding it, while I’m busily doing ritual work and prayer.

But over time this stone has shown another face. It started when I introduced it to the Pacific Ocean, where the water vibrated when I touched the stone to it. It still does that to any body of water I bring it to. The stone was born in the ancient Panthalassa Ocean, grew as an atoll far from any shore, was carried into Japan, sat under the cave’s living drip, then crossed the modern Pacific in my son’s pocket and was placed back into the same ocean on this side. When the water vibrated, it wasn’t only recognition — it was the circuit completing. The same body of water, across deep time.

it is more green in person than it looks in the photo

Now I am finding dimes in my bed, and this rock keeps disappearing and reappearing — in and out of its knotted mojo bag only to be found under my pillow later. Trickster stuff. Loki stuff. I love this stuff.

So I finally sat down and did some research last night while I was on the phone with the same son, because he finally told me the whole story from his perspective and how he found it. Let me just say — he now knows what it is like when Spirit takes over. He does not remember taking it, only looking at it and thinking, “Yes, Mom needs this,” and then finding it in his pocket later that day like… huh. So we had a long talk about that too, which is good, because my boys are all magically talented but they have always pushed back on anything, so I have never pushed or pressed. Now he’s seeing it for himself — and a lot of it.

My stone was found in 戸津井鍾乳洞 (Totsui Shōnyūdō / Totsui Limestone Cave) in Yura-chō, Hidaka-gun, Wakayama Prefecture.

Exact address: 和歌山県日高郡由良町戸津井646

It’s a small show cave (about 100 m long) formed in very old limestone. The area was a limestone quarry from around 1913/1918 until 1945, and the cave was later developed and opened for visitors. The limestone itself is Permian to Triassic in age — roughly 250 million years old and older — and belongs to the family of oceanic-reef limestones that were born far out in the ancient ocean and later accreted onto what would become Japan.

Deep Time: Pangea, Panthalassa, and the Bones of the World

During the Permian Period (299–252 million years ago), the final chapter of the Paleozoic, almost all of Earth’s landmasses were locked into the single supercontinent Pangea. The rest of the planet was covered by a vast open ocean called **Panthalassa** — the “all-sea.”

Panagea - isn’t she puuuurty??

In the tropical to subtropical waters of that ocean, limestone formed in a special way. In the Early Carboniferous (~340 Ma), submarine volcanoes (hotspot-type seamounts) erupted on the floor of the central Panthalassa. As those volcanic edifices cooled and the oceanic plate slowly subsided, reef-building organisms — calcareous algae, sponges, fusulinid foraminifers, microbialites, and some corals — colonized the summits and built atolls. These atolls kept growing upward for 70–80 million years, staying near sea level even as the plate drifted and sank. Because they sat in the open ocean far from any continent, they received almost no muddy or sandy sediment. The result is unusually pure, massive, high-calcium carbonate limestone — the compressed remains of ancient marine life that once floated in the Panthalassa Ocean.

Later, the oceanic plate carrying these atolls approached subduction zones along the margins of ancient continental blocks. The limestone was scraped off the sinking seamounts, mixed with chert and trench sediments, and accreted onto the growing edge of what would become the Japanese islands. Many of these blocks ended up in the Akiyoshi Belt and related complexes; others, like the limestone that hosts Totsui Cave, appear in slightly later accretionary packages but still carry the same deep oceanic heritage.

So this stone is not “just Japanese limestone.” It is a fragment of an ancient mid-ocean atoll that grew in the heart of Panthalassa while Pangea still existed. It is the bones of a vanished ocean.

The Active Drip

What I did not know until I sat down with the research was that this particular stone wasn’t just sitting on the cave floor. It was sitting under an active drip — the exact process that grows stalactites and stalagmites. The water that formed those formations was dissolving the ancient oceanic limestone, carrying the dissolved calcium carbonate, and slowly redepositing it. My stone was bathing in that living mineral soup for however long it took for the drip to keep hitting the same spot.

So what I have is:

- The deep-time body of the original oceanic reef limestone

- Actively recharged and coated by the cave’s own formative water

- Taken from the literal threshold space of a Cosmic Womb / underworld portal

It was participating in the cave’s ongoing alchemy — the same slow, patient, purifying process that turns pure water and ancient carbonate into living speleothems. That gives it a different charge: not just the endurance and ancestral memory of the Permian limestone itself, but the active *becoming* of the cave. The warmth has never left. Not just charged. Warm. In the language of the cave, that heat is the ongoing alchemy still happening inside the stone — the same slow process that turns dissolved ancient reef into new formation. It is still becoming.

Magical Properties

Limestone is the compressed remains of ancient life. In magical terms this makes it a stone of ancestral memory and deep time. It holds the “bones of the Earth.” It is grounding in the most literal sense — it connects you to the deep past of the planet itself.

Caves formed in limestone have been regarded across cultures as entrances to the underworld, the womb of the Earth Mother, and places of initiation and rebirth. The darkness, the dripping water, the slow growth of formations — all of it mirrors the processes of death, gestation, and return. Given my work with Hecate Sotera as Cosmic Womb / Anima Mundi and the strophalos, this limestone sits right at the threshold.

Because this stone was under the active drip, it also carries the living process of the cave. It is not a static fossil. It is still participating in the slow alchemy of dissolution and redeposition. That makes it particularly useful for work involving purification, gradual transformation, and the quiet rewriting of what has been calcified.

The very Same Day

Right after he gave me the stone, he stood sentry while I did ritual to the Pleiades. We were all so tired that day, but the election wouldn’t wait, so the magic had to be done then. As usually happens, the beach cleared out naturally for me. The spot I had chosen was at the base of a slope beneath an old-money mansion that still stands above. About a hundred years ago the slope fell away and took part of the back garden wall with it. You can still see the terracotta water and sewer pipes and sections of the rock garden wall. I have some of those pieces. They were on the altar that day.

Pieces of the wall

I chose the place specifically because it was decayed but still present. Old money, interrupted, yet not erased. Exactly the current I was working.

In that ritual I healed and split my paternal and maternal timelines into what has become the 19th — the number that keeps showing up, the axis I’ve been walking. I have been working back twelve generations to the point where both sides of my family were connected to royalty and then split. Working the root. Mending. Imagining the life that could have continued if that break had never happened. A timeline of generational wealth and continuity instead of the fracture.

The working altar

harvesting the old style red bricks was another highlight. this enchanted brick dust will be offered under an unannounced series. Powerful protection Magic.

My Thor stood literal sentry behind me. He said he wanted to be St. Michael. I smiled, because that post is already held by the older presence, and he was more than happy to have the additional company.

The stone was already in my hand when the cut was made.

The day the bones of the earth met their grandaughter, the pacific ocean.

Full Circle

The warm stone is the physical ground that the Magnum field can finally root into. It is the World itself arriving in my palm as living limestone from the primordial sea, timed to the exact window when the full zodiacal circle was being sealed and tested — while I was already swimming in that Magnum signal through Edwin’s beta period, even if I didn’t fully understand it yet.

This is not coincidence.

This is the kind of alignment I have been building toward all year with the #19 work, the planetary series, the timeline shifts, and the way I handle my own materia.

I am holding a piece of Panthalassa that was still being kissed by the cave’s water when someone — my Jupiter himself — lifted it for me — and it arrived while the completed World-field was already moving through my body.

And that is how everything has fucking come full circle from the initiatory rites of Thema Mundi over three years ago, to Magnum Mundi and the world I have and will be creating now.

I just…. have to sit and integrate this for a while.

Because also, PAN has become increasingly loud since I received the stone, and this stone is definitely ENSOULED with a spirit that I do not know, but am getting to. But what if…. Pan…

Pan is a whole other conversation…
